Privacy Policy

Home Floorplan is built and maintained by Maurizio Cinti, an independent developer based in Italy. The app is designed to keep the information that describes your home under your control, on your iPad first.

The short version: Home Floorplan keeps your home data on your device by design. I do not run a server that collects it, I do not see it, and I never use it for advertising or profiling.

Who is responsible

The data controller for GDPR purposes is Maurizio Cinti, independent developer based in Italy.

Approach

My approach to your data

Home Floorplan reads the home you have already set up in Apple Home and helps you see and control it on a floorplan. To do that well, it needs access to information about rooms, accessories, sensors and states. That information is used to make the app work for you, not to build a profile about you.

  • On-device first. Habits, usage insights and environmental suggestions are processed on your iPad.
  • No advertising, no data mining. Your home data is never used for ads, marketing, profiling or use-based data mining.
  • No account, no tracking. Home Floorplan does not require a login and does not track you across other apps or websites.

Data handling

How your data is handled

This is where your data may be used, and why.

Apple Home and HomeKit

With your permission, granted through the iPadOS system prompt, Home Floorplan reads information from Apple Home: the names of your home, rooms and accessories, which room each accessory belongs to, current accessory states such as on/off, brightness, lock state or blind position, and sensor readings such as temperature, humidity, air quality, light, motion and contact sensors.

The app can also send commands to your accessories when you control them from the floorplan. This data is stored in Apple's on-device HomeKit database and on your iPad. You can review or revoke access at any time in Settings -> Privacy & Security -> HomeKit.

Legal basis: consent through the system permission, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, and performance of the service you requested, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

History, habits and floorplans

To recognise patterns over time, the app records accessory events and sensor readings and keeps a rolling history on your device. From that history it computes habits, behavioural patterns, usage anomalies and environmental suggestions entirely on your iPad.

The floorplan you draw, including rooms, layout, furniture, accessory markers and any image you import to trace over, is also stored on your device. None of this is transmitted to me.

iCloud sync

Your floorplans, accessory markers and app settings sync between your devices through your private iCloud database, operated by Apple. I cannot access this data, and it never passes through a Home Floorplan server.

Deleting the app removes the local copy; to remove synced data as well, delete the app's iCloud data in iPadOS Settings.

Home presence (optional)

To adapt suggestions when you are home or away, the app can monitor a single geofence around your home, entirely on your device. Only a home/away state is derived: your coordinates and movements are never recorded or transmitted. You can revoke location access at any time in iPadOS Settings.

Apple WeatherKit

To show outdoor conditions next to your rooms, the app may request weather data from Apple WeatherKit using your home's approximate coordinates. Beyond the optional presence geofence described above, the app does not track your location, and your movements are never recorded or transmitted.

This request is handled by Apple and is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

Optional AI

AI features are off by default

Home Floorplan can use an AI model to add plain-language touches on top of patterns your iPad has already detected, such as readable names or short explanations for a suggestion. These features are optional and off by default.

  • You provide your own API key for the AI provider you choose. The key is stored securely in the iPad Keychain.
  • When an AI feature runs, the app sends a small, pre-aggregated summary directly from your device to that provider.
  • It does not send raw event history and it never passes through a Home Floorplan server.

Your use of that provider is governed by your own agreement with them, including their privacy policy, for example Anthropic or OpenAI. You can turn AI features off or remove your API key at any time.

If you use voice input, your speech is transcribed using Apple's Speech Recognition, which may process audio on Apple servers under Apple's Privacy Policy. Only the resulting text is sent to your chosen AI provider.

Beta and store

TestFlight and App Store data

While the app is distributed through TestFlight, Apple may collect standard diagnostics such as crash logs and basic usage information to help improve app quality. Feedback you submit through TestFlight is shared with me and may include a screenshot, device model and iPadOS version if you choose to send it.

On the App Store, Apple may provide aggregated and anonymised statistics. This is handled under Apple's Privacy Policy.

Limits

What I do not do

  • I do not sell or rent your data.
  • I do not use home data for advertising, marketing, profiling or use-based data mining.
  • I do not show ads in the app.
  • I do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs to track your behaviour.
  • I do not require an account and I do not build a profile of you.

Retention

How long data is kept

Detailed history, such as individual accessory events and sensor readings, is kept on your device on a rolling basis of about 30 days. After that, it is automatically removed, while condensed summaries may be kept so long-term insights continue to work.

Your floorplan and approved automations stay until you change or remove them.

Control

How to delete or stop processing

  • Delete the app to remove locally stored data from your device.
  • Revoke HomeKit access in iPadOS Settings to stop the app reading your home data.
  • Turn off AI features or remove your API key to stop AI-related requests.
  • Delete the app's iCloud data in iPadOS Settings to remove synced floorplans and settings from your iCloud.

Rights

Your rights

Under the GDPR and similar laws, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.

Because Home Floorplan processes your data on your device and I do not collect it centrally, you can exercise most of these rights directly by viewing, editing or deleting data in the app, revoking permissions or removing the app. For anything else, write to [email protected].

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. In Italy, this is the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.

Other notes

Children, transfers and changes

Home Floorplan is not directed at children and is not intended for use by children. I do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Your home data is processed on your device and is not transferred by me. If you enable optional AI features, summaries go to the provider you choose, which may process them outside the EU/EEA under your agreement with that provider. Apple services such as WeatherKit are operated by Apple under its own safeguards.

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, I will update this page and the date above before the change takes effect.
